SumnerAwards2010-Jonathan Welsh - 15 years

28 volunteers from Coastguard’s Sumner Lifeboat were honored on Saturday with the presentation of Long Service Awards representing 290 years of service to the community.   Peter McDonald who was presented with a certificate and pin for 25 years service commented that he was pleased to see so many young people joining as they are the future of the service.

Cheryl Moffat, Coastguard Regional Manager presented the Coastguard certificates of service and service pins.  Coastguard introduced these new service awards this year.  Sumner Lifeboat also has local service medals which were presented by Sumner Lifeboat President Brett Anderson.

Also present were the families of the Sumner Lifeboat crew.  Mrs Moffat and Mr Anderson both acknowledge the sacrifice made by families to allow the crew to participate in training as well as search and rescue operations.
