Fatality in Clutha River

A man collecting water samples was swept down a stream into the Clutha River, by a water discharge.  Coastguard Clyde volunteers travelled 90km to Beaumont to launch.  Searched 10km upstream however the river was in high flow and searching conditions were difficult.  Police stood Coastguard down when they narrowed the search area up the stream where a vessel was unable to travel.  The body of the missing man was found 7 days later.

missing person

Police tasked Coastguard Clyde to search the Roxburgh River bank for a missing person between Alexandra and where their bike had been found.  They also transported Police and Land SAR volunteers to the scene to search on land.  Fortunately after two hours searching  they were stood down when the person arrived home.

Swimmer Injured

December 20, Clyde volunteers transported Ambulance crew to treat a 20 year old women injured when another swimmer jumped from a platform onto her in the Kawarau River.  The woman was transported to the ambulance on board Clyde Rescue.

Rower Missing on Lake Dunstan

March 2010 a rower suffered a medical incident and slipped out of his boat.  Coastguard Clyde were called to assist with the search for the man and put down a marker where he was last seen.  The Police dive team found his body the next day.

Where we come from

Coastguard Clyde was started in 2004 by a group of boating enthusiasts and members of the local Volunteer Fire Service. They all share two special attributes. They love the water and being out on it. They want to do the right thing. Saving the lives of the people in their community is the most valuable contribution they can make. After two years of hard work they obtained a Coastguard Rescue Vessel and have since then put their energy into achieving Coastguard training qualifications and providing search & rescue, and on water safety services for local groups and on local waterways.
