The area in which we operate is
very diverse with rivers, surf, bars and the open sea. All as we know very
different beasts. The crews dedication to training is second to none with
practise on Tuesday evenings and every second
Sunday. Some of our members have been in the Unit since its conception and
they are still actively working and training.
Waimakariri-Ashley
Lifeboat is recieving more call outs each
year. In the last year we responded to
35 calls for assistance and 6 calls involving Police. We
answered 76 radio calls and assisted water craft to the value of of
$491,000. 52 people were saved as a result of
the work of our Professional Volunteers.
Our members gave over 5,217 hours of volunteer service to our
community in the past year.
Our funding is by way of donation, grants, and hard
work.
Once a trading port for flat
bottom ships, Kaiapoi is well known for its boating and as the population
of bothChristchurch and Waimakariri districts grow the waterways become more
popular. The playground in which we operate is well used by all manner of
people, fishermen, tourist operators, jet skis, jet boats, lurches,
kayaks, rowers, yachts, swimmers. This has
increased our role on the water. We are pleased to say this is mainly in
the education field and with so many different river users this can
sometimes be challenging, The rewards however, come by way of a small
decline in emergency callouts and an increase in calls for help. Long may
this trend continue.
